I just came home from a day of playing basketball at Hadley Park in Lowell. Of course the old knees still can run with the best of them. Played and dominated three games of 4 on 4 half court basketball.
As the evening became night some more basketball players showed up and we ended up playing some full court games. This after my old knees had already played some good intense hour and a half already. Still, I was game and and still dominated the court.
Overall it was a good workout and I think i feel like i am in better shape than i was last year. Go figure! However there was a incident that really disturbed me. One of my teammates and an opposing player were getting too physical with one another. One ego against another and foul mouths began flaring. Racism, death threats, physical appearance remarks, and just plain childish comments interchanged between the two idiots. This went on for 5 minutes before things got back to normal. TK and I did our best to calm the situation down. If TK and I were not there to pull them apart, there was a pretty good chance that there was going to be a fight because everyone on the court seem to just be spectators and they were not going to even attempt to pull them apart.
You know, Lowell is my home. Its where i grew up. I've moved away from Lowell 8 years ago and when i come back to visit, I am please to see the changes in the city. It give me hope that the city i grew sick of living in is finally turning around. The streets look cleaner and the real estate looks maintained.
I guess the Bball incident just makes me take a step back and realize that Lowell still has the anger and animosity I was exposed to when i grew up. As much improved as it is when it comes to the look of the city, the people, especially the children still show signs of a set back in attitudes.
I have not given up on my city yet. Come on children of Lowell! Put the city on the map and clean up your act!
